.... Short Film KHUMBINI will be representing Eswatini
This marks the fifth consecutive year that
the EU Delegation and Alliance Française Mbabane-Eswatini have brought this
celebration of European and Eswatini cinema to the capital, and the first year
that the partnership turns 50
Doors open at 16:00. By 17:00, the opening screening, Wake Up from Eswatini, will roll. It will be followed immediately by the Smartphone Short Film Competition at 17:15, a segment that, in recent editions, has drawn some of the most animated post-screening conversation, before Khumbini, another Eswatini production, takes the screen at 17:30.
The French entry, Adieu les cons / Bye Bye Morons, closes the first evening at 18:00. The festival is free and open to the public across all four days.
Thursday's bill places Poland and Denmark in conversation with each other, Andrzej Wajda's 1970 forest drama Brzezina / The Birch Wood at 16:00, then the contemporary documentary Mr Nobody Against Putin at 18:00.
Meanwhile, Friday stretches toward the evening: Finland's After Us, the Flood at 16:30, followed by the Italian film Vermiglio / The Mountain Bride at 18:30.
Saturday closes the festival with three
films across the afternoon: Ireland's Mrs Robinson, Cyprus's Pause, and
Sweden's The Dance Club, the last screening at 17:00, bringing the curtain down
on what is, this year, also a celebration of fifty years of partnership between
the EU and Eswatini.
Worth mentioning, The Alliance Française Mbabane-Eswatini co-presents the event alongside the EU Delegation, with support from the Austrian Embassy Pretoria, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Goethe-Institut, the Institut Français, Ireland, and Sweden. Admission is free on all four evenings.

Launched weeks ago at House on Fire, the
2026 EU Bushfire Schools Festival arrives on May 28, with more than 600 young
people set to take the stage in Malkerns, marking 10-plus years of a tradition
that, by the EU's own count, has brought nearly 10,000 youth through its doors.
The European Union in Eswatini launched
this year's edition of the Bushfire Schools Festival at House on Fire in
Malkerns, with stakeholders from the education sector in attendance, including
a representative of the Minister for Education and Training.
EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten
Mecklenburg, said at the launch that the Union was very proud to continue its
support for a festival it had backed for more than a decade.
He described the day as one that goes beyond performance in a structured space, he said, where young people engage in workshops, artistic expression, and skills-based learning alongside professional artists and industry stakeholders.
This year's festival carries the theme ‘Art
in Action Future in the Making’. It will
bring together more than 600 high school learners, out-of-school youth clubs,
and children living with disabilities, a breadth of participation that has
defined the event since its earliest editions.
Ambassador Mecklenburg noted at the launch that since the festival began, it has brought almost 10,000 young people through the programme, a cumulative reach that, he said, has made it an impressive event in the national cultural calendar.
