Spring got a little greener in Ngwane Park on Friday evening as Jägermeister brought together its partners, distributors, event organisers and outlet owners for its Spring Appreciation event at The Splash.
Guests arrived with touches of green in their outfits and settled into an evening of drinks, conversation and networking. From the photographs and videos from the event, the mood was relaxed, with Jägermeister served in different ways as guests explored mixes, cocktails and the brand’s familiar chilled serve.
The gathering was also an opportunity for the brand to recognise the people and businesses that help bring its experiences to consumers across Eswatini. Rather than being centred only on the drink, the evening created space for the people involved in Jägermeister’s local events, distribution and nightlife activity to connect outside their usual working environment.
Jägermeister itself has a history that stretches back to 1934, when German entrepreneur Curt Mast developed the herbal liqueur in Wolfenbüttel, Germany.
The recipe contains 56 natural ingredients, including herbs, roots, fruits and blossoms, although the exact composition remains a closely guarded secret. The brand recommends serving its original Jägermeister at -18°C, which has become closely associated with its traditional shot serve.
The name also has a distinctly German origin. Jägermeister translates to master hunter and was historically used as a title within Germany’s hunting administration. The stag and cross on the bottle are connected to the legend of Saint Hubertus, the patron saint of hunters.
While the brand has its roots in Germany, Jägermeister has built a strong identity around music, nightlife and live entertainment, areas that have also shaped its presence in Eswatini.
Locally, the brand has been involved in nightlife activations, pop-up experiences and music events, including the Jägermeister Brass Cartel at the MTN Bushfire Festival. These activities have placed the brand within some of the country’s biggest entertainment spaces, where music, fashion, drinks and social experiences naturally meet.
That connection is also reflected in the people who represent the brand locally. Funeka Mdluli is the Jägermeister brand ambassador in Eswatini, officially taking on the role in March 2026 after three years of working with the brand as an activation agent.
Her appointment followed years of hands-on experience representing Jägermeister at festivals and campaigns around the country. She had already been working closely with the brand before the ambassador position became official, making the move a continuation of an existing relationship rather than the beginning of one.
Funeka’s work has placed her directly within the environments where Jägermeister interacts with its audience. From festivals to nightlife activations, the role involves representing the brand while helping create experiences around it.
That experience has also given her an understanding of the local entertainment landscape and the audiences Jägermeister speaks to.
For the brand, that local presence is important because its activities in Eswatini are not limited to putting a bottle on a bar. Music, festivals, nightlife and social events have become part of the way Jägermeister presents itself, giving the brand opportunities to meet consumers in different settings.
The Spring Appreciation event fits into that approach. It brought together the people who help make those experiences possible, while giving them an evening to connect, enjoy the brand and mark the beginning of spring.
There was no shortage of Jägermeister on the tables, and guests had more than one way to enjoy it. The classic chilled shot remained part of the evening, while cocktails and mixed serves gave the green bottle a little room to change character.
For a brand that has spent decades building an identity around its distinctive taste, cold serve and association with nightlife, those variations are part of the fun.
And with spring now underway, Jägermeister has another season of festivals, events, activations and nights out ahead of it. If Friday’s gathering at The Splash was anything to go by, the green season has officially begun.
