New Board to revive Eswatini Pageantry

 

 

Former Miss Eswatini Nompilo Mncina has been appointed Chairperson of the newly established Eswatini Pageant Association, bringing a former national titleholder into the leadership of an organisation tasked with developing and repositioning the country's pageantry industry.

The association was unveiled by the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) on Tuesday at the MTN Golf Park in Ezulwini. 

Mncina represented Eswatini at the Miss World pageant in 2009 and will chair a committee whose members bring experience from areas including pageantry, corporate governance, fashion, beauty, sport, media, communications, law and entrepreneurship.

Among the members is Khethiwe Alexander, who has been appointed National Director and Licence Holder of Miss Eswatini.

The committee also includes former international footballer and sports administrator Mfanafuthi Taribo Bhembe, lawyer and fashion entrepreneur Pinky Glover, and journalist and broadcaster John Pires, Managing Editor of the Eswatini National News Network (ENNN).

The composition of the association brings together professionals from outside traditional pageantry, with the organisation positioning governance, business, communications and professional administration alongside the pageant industry.

One of its immediate responsibilities will be overseeing the hosting and development of Miss Eswatini.

Alexander, in her capacity as National Director and Licence Holder, will lead the Miss Eswatini programme, including the process of crowning the next national titleholder. The new Miss Eswatini is expected to represent the country at the Miss World 2027 Festival in Tanzania.

The association has also outlined a broader mandate for the industry, including the rebranding and repositioning of Miss Eswatini, strengthening governance and introducing more transparent systems around the pageant.

Professional contestant preparation and the development of corporate partnerships are also part of the stated direction, alongside increasing the national visibility of the pageant.

For Mncina, the appointment brings her experience as a former national titleholder into the leadership of the institution. Her international pageant experience dates back to 2009, when she represented Eswatini at Miss World.

The association's plans also position pageantry as a platform extending beyond the competition itself, with an emphasis on developing young women, creating commercial opportunities and building national brands.

 It also intends to provide Eswatini with titleholders who are prepared to represent the country at national and international platforms.

The establishment of the association comes as the country's creative and cultural sectors continue to develop formal structures around different disciplines.

Its leadership brings together people with experience across several industries, creating a structure that places pageantry alongside professional skills in governance, media, fashion, sport and business.

The association will now oversee the development of Miss Eswatini as the country prepares for the next national titleholder and the Miss World 2027 Festival in Tanzania.
