This November, Royal Eswatini Travel Agency (RETA) is bringing that kind of experience closer to home for Emaswati travelling to Johannesburg for KUNYE.
The travel package, scheduled for 7–8 November, is designed around more than getting festivalgoers from Eswatini to South Africa and back. It includes transport, accommodation, WiFi, snacks, a mall stop and a night out, creating a weekend itinerary that allows travellers to enjoy Johannesburg beyond the festival itself.
The package is priced at E1,990 per person, with a 40 per cent deposit securing a spot. Pick-ups are scheduled from Manzini at 6am and Mbabane at 7am. Festival tickets are not included in the travel package. For RETA, the KUNYE trip fits into a wider approach to travel that goes beyond simply booking a flight or arranging a hotel.
The travel agency offers services including airline tickets, travel insurance, travel packages, cruises, activities and visa assistance. Its travel centre, which has recently moved to the Dlanubeka Building in Mbabane, continues to position the agency as a place where travellers can plan everything from weekend escapes to bigger international adventures.
That makes the KUNYE package particularly relevant for travellers who want the excitement of a festival without having to organise every part of the weekend themselves. At the centre of the trip is KUNYE, a South African music and culture platform built around the idea of togetherness.
KUNYE, which means 'together' in isiXhosa, was created as a bridge between South Africa’s emerging electronic music producers and the global stage. The platform grew out of streamed sets during the 2020 lockdowns before developing into an established Afro House event series with shows in cities including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, London, Kenya and Ibiza.
Its Johannesburg edition on November 7, 2026, will take place at Huddle Park, with the event running from midday until 10pm. The festival describes itself as a gathering of artists and fans around South African musical heritage, with a particular focus on developing African producers.
The 2026 Johannesburg line-up includes Shimza, Francis Mercier and DJ Kent, among other artists, bringing together established names and electronic sounds associated with the KUNYE experience. KUNYE’s appeal has also extended beyond South Africa.
Its events have taken the concept of Afro House and African electronic music to audiences across the continent and internationally, giving the platform an audience that stretches well beyond its South African beginnings.
For Emaswati, the Johannesburg edition offers another opportunity to experience that sound and culture in person. RETA’s approach makes the journey itself part of the story.
Travelling as a group creates space for the social side of the weekend, while the included mall stop gives travellers time to explore Johannesburg before settling into the festival atmosphere. The accommodation removes the pressure of arranging a place to stay separately, while WiFi and snacks add some of the practical details that can make a long-distance trip easier.
There is also a night out built into the package, giving the trip a life beyond the festival grounds. It is this combination that reflects how festival travel has increasingly become part of lifestyle culture. For many travellers, the destination is only one part of the attraction.
The experience includes what happens on the road, where people stay, what they do between events and who they share the weekend with. RETA’s KUNYE package brings those elements together in one trip, giving travellers from Eswatini a structured way to experience one of Johannesburg’s prominent Afro House gatherings.
