.... Inside 30 years of beauty, business, balance with Cara Breero
The way Cara runs her business, shows up for her family, supports her team and continues to shape Eswatini's beauty and wellness industry is something worth studying.
After 30 years in the profession, she's built more than a successful spa, she's built a reputation for consistency, professionalism and genuine care.
Whether she's mentoring therapists, welcoming clients through the doors of The White Orchid Day Spa or helping raise standards across the industry, Breero approaches it all with the same determination.
Spend even a short time talking to her and it quickly becomes clear that her success hasn't come from chasing trends or shortcuts, but from years of showing up, learning and doing the work.
When asked to sum up three decades in the beauty industry, Cara Breero doesn't mention awards, business milestones or even skincare.
Instead, she laughs and says her life would make a great movie.
"My Big Fat Spa Life," she says without hesitation, borrowing from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. And if Hollywood ever came calling? Jennifer Lopez would get the lead role.
It's an answer that tells you a lot about the woman behind The White Orchid Day Spa in Mbabane.
Warm, witty and refreshingly down to earth, Breero has spent the last 30 years building one of Eswatini's best-known wellness brands.
Behind the calm atmosphere her clients know so well is a career built on hard work, resilience and a genuine passion for helping people feel better in their own skin.
The Woman behind The White Orchid
Three decades in the beauty industry have taught Breero that success isn't always glamorous.
There have been long days, demanding clients, unexpected challenges and plenty of lessons along the way.
"It's been chaotic at times. But it's also been incredibly rewarding," she admits.
Those years have also shaped how she sees her profession. Too often, she says, people think somatology is simply about pampering.
In reality, it combines skin science, anatomy and physiology with an understanding of how different treatments affect the body.
For Breero, every treatment begins with trust. Clients rely on therapists to make informed decisions about their skin, which is why proper training, quality products and professional knowledge are so important.
What's in her bag
If she could pack her bags tomorrow, Breero would head straight to the Turkey Wellness and Beauty Expo, an event she's wanted to attend for years.
"It's the perfect mix of learning and travel. I'd spend the day discovering new ideas and the evenings exploring Turkey," she says.
Her travel essentials are practical rather than glamorous. A Lamelle Skin Essence Correct Mist Spray helps keep her skin hydrated during long flights.
A journal comes along to capture ideas, and comfortable shoes are a must because she loves exploring new places on foot.
Away from the treatment room, Breero has another side to her personality.
She's a self-confessed techno music fan, and David Guetta is one of her favourites.
Whenever she needs an energy boost, she turns the volume up.
"Music changes my mood almost instantly," she says.
It may not be the answer people expect from a wellness professional, but for Breero, balance doesn't always mean silence.
Ask Breero about the one product she can't live without, and the answer comes quickly, Lamelle Vitamin C serum.
Now in her fifties, she's focused on maintaining healthy skin rather than chasing anti-ageing trends. Consistency, she believes, delivers better results than quick fixes.
That's also why she worries about the growing popularity of cheap, unregulated skincare products sold online.
Many promise instant results, but Breero believes consumers need to be careful about what they're putting on their skin.
"There is so much science behind professional skincare. People deserve advice from trained professionals, not just social media trends," she says.
When the working week ends, Breero swaps the treatment room for the outdoors.
She enjoys riding her e-bike with her husband and often joins him on his adventure motorcycle rides. It's her favourite way to clear her mind after a busy week.
Their mornings are much slower. The couple starts each day with fascia stretching and grounding before sharing breakfast together.
"It's become part of our routine. It's simple, but it works for us," she says..
If Breero could speak to her younger self, she'd offer one piece of advice, stop worrying so much about what other people think.
With experience has come confidence. Today, she places far more value on family, health and peace of mind than on outside opinions.
"I'd tell myself to trust my instincts sooner. You don't have to make yourself smaller to make other people comfortable," she says.
Behind The Beauty & Wellness Summit
The Eswatini Beauty & Wellness Summit may look effortless to guests, but Breero knows just how much work happens behind the scenes.
There are last-minute programme changes, technical hiccups and unexpected challenges that need quick decisions.
Keeping everything running smoothly takes teamwork, flexibility and plenty of patience.
Looking back, those stressful moments have also become some of the funniest memories, for her.
Although she's travelled, Breero says there's something special about coming back to Eswatini.
She speaks warmly about the kindness of emaSwati, the country's peaceful surroundings and the strong sense of culture that continues to shape everyday life.
"For me, wellness isn't only about treatments. It's also about feeling grounded, connected and at peace," she says warmly.
Breero hopes Eswatini's beauty and wellness industry continues to grow through education, collaboration and higher professional standards.
She believes investing in qualified therapists, trusted products and ongoing training will strengthen the industry while giving clients the confidence they deserve.
After 30 years in the business, her vision extends beyond her own spa. She wants to see Eswatini recognised for excellence in beauty and wellness, with an industry that continues to grow while putting professionalism and client care first.
